Truong Duong Medical – A Turning Point Born From Social Responsibility
Continuing from Episode 1 of the “26 Years of Truong Duong: Unity Over Waves” series, if the first 20 years were about building strength in the garment industry, then 2020 was truly Truong Duong’s finest hour — a turning point that was never part of any business plan, but was instead written by a spirit of solidarity and “Unity Over Waves.”
A Call From the Homeland, and Questions That Kept Us Up at Night
In late 2019, as the pandemic began spreading abroad, Truong Duong’s reputation and existing garment capabilities brought a steady stream of orders for protective gear from international partners.
But by 2020, the pandemic reached Vietnam directly. Export supply chains were disrupted, and hospitals and frontline medical centers faced a severe shortage of qualified protective equipment. Even though we had never manufactured or sold medical products domestically before, Truong Duong decided to use the fabric we had on hand to sew protective suits and face masks to donate to field hospitals.
Kindness Paired With Science: No Room for Complacency With Public Health
Even as an emergency relief effort, Truong Duong refused to cut corners. Understanding that a protective suit or a mask is literally a shield protecting the lives of doctors and nurses, we knew that 20 years of garment experience alone was not enough.
The company reached out to reputable organizations to have our products assessed against the ISO 13485 medical standard. Truong Duong wanted to be certain that every item donated met strict quality and safety requirements.
Three Historic Months of “3-On-Site,” and the Numbers That Tell the Story
As Ho Chi Minh City entered the peak of the outbreak and lockdowns tightened, the factory launched its “3-on-site” campaign (eat on-site, sleep on-site, produce on-site) to keep export orders running while urgently supplying the front lines.
- For three straight months, nearly 300 workers volunteered to stay at the factory, turning the production floor into a second home. They stayed away from their own families to help carry a much larger mission alongside the company.
- 3,000–4,000 protective suits per day: that was the extraordinary output Truong Duong sustained continuously for field hospitals.
- Thanks to strict pandemic-prevention protocols and the company’s careful attention to employee welfare, everyone’s health was protected throughout the three months of “3-on-site” — the greatest reward of that shared commitment.
From a Wartime Turn of Fate to a Peacetime Mission
The fight against the pandemic eventually passed, but the resolve and wholeheartedness forged during that difficult time opened an entirely new chapter for the company.
It was through the protective gear given away in the heart of the crisis that Truong Duong officially stepped into the business of manufacturing medical consumables. Today, Truong Duong proudly serves as a trusted manufacturer and supplier of surgical towels, medical masks, and other medical consumables for hundreds of hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide.
