EO STERILIZATION SYSTEM

Ethylene oxide (EO) gas sterilization is a sterilization method that uses EO gas at low temperatures to kill bacteria, fungi, spores, and other pathogens. EO gas is a colorless, flammable, and explosive gas that can penetrate into the nooks and crannies of objects to be sterilized.

Why is Ethylene Oxide gas used as a sterilizing gas?

EO gas reacts as a strong alkylating agent, disrupting DNA and causing a chain reaction on the protein structure of microorganisms and preventing them from replicating.
EO gas has good penetrating properties, penetrating paper, fabric, and plastic packaging and is highly effective: destroying all viruses, bacteria, fungi, including bacterial spores. So it is very suitable for sterilization with most materials and materials. Even for medical devices with tubular structures smaller than 1mm and longer than 1m.
Safe to use on almost all types of tools and materials.
Fully adaptable to tools that cannot withstand high temperatures or humidity.

Factors to control when sterilizing with EO gas

The concentration of EO gas will sterilize extremely effectively from 200 ppm – 800 ppm.
The exposure time to ensure highest quality sterilization is from 2 to 8 hours.
The air removal time will be about 4 to 8 hours depending on the size of the steaming chamber.
Using EO gas sterilizers, the temperature must be maintained at 30 to 50 degrees Celsius.
The sterilization process proceeds by exposing the product to EO gas in a sealed chamber. Factors that will affect sterilization ability are: Temperature, humidity, air concentration and contact time.
Humidity control in EO gas sterilization technology is very important. Always keep the humidity of the EO sterilization chamber at an appropriate level of 30 to 80%.

Step 1: Create heat and humidity in the EO chamber (Pretreat/ Conditioning)

First, the air will be sucked out of the chamber. Next, heat and moisture will be injected into the chamber through a boiler or hot water to create the best conditions for EO gas to operate.

Step 2: Sterilization

EO gas is filled into the chamber to a specified level (determined by pressure). Most packaging absorbs EO gas, so the amount of EO gas needs to be sufficient.

Step 3: Aeration/ Degassing

Air is supplied and vacuum is performed several times to desorb EO. Finished products are isolated in a separate room and the air is circulated continuously for many days.
